CoS will have all the normal items you expect in a MMO (Armour, weapons etc). But has a major difference compared to other MMO's.
(Circle of Reflection will have a full item database when allowed to release this information)
Equipment comes in four varieties in the CoS World: Mundane, Magical, Soul Bound and Monogrammed.
1) Mundane: This is any item with unused potential. There will be gem holders, spell slots and Rune sockets as well as a crafting potential value.
This Mundane item can be improved with anything until the potential value of the object is used up. Once it has been improved to any degree, the item becomes Magical. Mundane objects have no value and cannot be traded or sold. In order to do so, they must first be crafted into a magical item.
2) Magical Items: These are items that have been improved through adventuring enhancement or by artisans adding features (Gems, Runes, Charms or Talismans).
Once an item becomes Magical it can be sold or traded.
3) Soul Bound Items: Once a Magical item is improved to at least 85% of its total potential that item will become Soul Bound to the player that improved the item. This means it can no longer be sold or traded. However, when the player is done with the item it can be taken to an Artisan who can extract one of the powers in the item for use in another item. This destroys the rest of the item in the process.
4) Monogrammed Items: These are Magical or Soul Bound items that the player takes on a special Quest to get monogrammed with their personal mark. In doing so, the item is made Soul Bound (if it wasn't already). However, when monogrammed, the item will become part of the Player's personal equipment Set. Set items give extra potential to the item, allowing for further enhancement by the player.
Statement from Dev Team when asked about 'female clothing' (We all know females don't play MMO's right? haha..:P )
Yes, there will be plenty of things made especially for females! First off, we have some female designers working on the game, so this isn't a matter of males trying to make stuff for females (and botching the job. I mean, what a guy thinks a girl wants to look like or wear, well, that's a recipe for disaster).
Speaking of clothing... did you know that you will NEED to own more than one outfit? There are different parts of the game that will require you to dress appropriately. Come on, you don't wear rusty old armor when you are invited to a meeting with the ruler. Or... if you want to go to the public baths you'll need a toga, or if you want to infiltrate an enemy stronghold in disguise you'll want to don one of their uniforms, or if you want to go for a swim to cross a river... plate armor would drag you to the bottom! And to tie this into your original question, girls outfits for all of these situations are not only different than boys, but designed from the ground up for females (not adapted from males).
Dev Team response on use of Items.
Anyone can use any kind of weapon or armor. There are no character classes in CoS, and therefore, no class restrictions. However, just because you can use an axe or a sword or a bow, doesn't make you great at it. You will need to practice and study whatever you wish to excel in when playing CoS.
Mundane equipment is found while adventuring, both from drops and from treasure. You can also quest for a specific item you wish to obtain, though you have to gain the knowledge of something in order to quest for it. This means you cannot look up some item on a web site that someone else got and quest for it, your character has to gain knowledge of it during game play in order to quest for the item (more on that later).
You can buy magical items from shops, but not mundane. Just because it's already magical, doesn't mean you can't improve it though. To improve a mundane or magical item you collect things from quest rewards, or purchase them from other players or from shops. However, you do not stand around and craft the item; instead you take it to the proper artisan and decide what you want made. There is a cost to have the work done, but that's all there is to it. No standing around for hours doing any repetitive 'work'. This is a game, not a job. We are all about in depth interesting and enjoyable quests, not repetitive grinds or time sinks.
NPC shops will sell equipment that you want (at times). The reason for this is simple; players will be selling equipment they find on quests to the shops. There are rewards for this, which will encourage players to sell good stuff to the shops. Players will then be able to purchase that same equipment from the shops. In addition, the shops will occasionally sell special items to players that have built up a good rapport with them, items not sold to the shop by players.
We are spending a lot of time and effort to make a good game economy, yet add some new elements while also cutting back on the typical outside farming that happens in many games. The exact system we are using to stop some of this is still being kept under wraps, but I will tell you that there are economic elements of the game that cannot be farmed, purchased, traded or otherwise abused by outside forces. We want the players to excel in the game because they play the game.
